I write stories and take pictures, usually concerning science and health, foodways and waterways, and wildlife and wild places. I'm a current editorial fellow at Sierra Magazine and a staff writer/editor for Berkeley Health Magazine at the University of California Berkeley. Prior to that I lived in Texas, where I spent time as a photography fellow for The Texas Tribune and multimedia producer for Austin's National Public Radio affiliate. I hold a history degree from Emory University and a master's in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
When not working, I'm likely on a trail or down by the water with my wife Mindy and 5-year-old pointer, Davy. I run all story ideas by them.
