I write stories and take pictures, primarily focused on science and health, foodways and waterways, and wildlife and wild places. I'm currently a writer and editor for the School of Public Health at the University of California Berkeley and a recent editorial fellow at Sierra magazine. Prior to that I lived in Texas, where I earned a master’s in journalism at the University of Texas at Austin.
When not working, I'm likely on a trail with my wife Mindy and 5-year-old shorthaired pointer, Davy. I run my story ideas by them.
My writing and photography has appeared in Sierra, Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine, the Austin American-Statesman, Reporting Texas, Texas Music Magazine, KUT/KUTX, the Texas Tribune, and Berkeley Health. I’ve also worked with nonprofits and research institutes, like Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Farmgrass, World Vision and the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health.
